Brazil have been dominant in all matches except for their surprising defeat to Cameroon, where they did rest a number of players including Neymar. Prior to that encounter they were undefeated at the top of Group G with commanding victories over Switzerland and Serbia, which allowed them to progress through to the round of 16 and book a match against South Korea.

Netherlands v Argentina Preview

The second quarter final sees two of the heavyweights of the competition face off where only one can progress through to the Semi Final.

This will be the 10th meeting between these two nations with the results evenly split, Netherlands winning 4 times, Argentina 3 times and 2 drawn matches. The last time these two nations met was in the 2014 Fifa World Cup, where the match finished 0-0 but Argentina progressed through to the final on Penalties.

This time around, Argentina are slight favourites to progress through to the semi final after hitting their straps over the last 3 matches.

 

Netherlands Fifa World Cup So Far

The Netherlands progressed through the group stage as the winner of Group A. Despite the match being tight until late, the Netherlands beat Senegal 2-0 in the opener, had a hard fought draw against Ecuador, then comfortably disposed of the tournament hosts Qatar in the final group match.

Going into the Round of 16 fixture against the USA there was talk the Americans would carry their strong group form into the knock out phase, however the Netherlands comfortably disposed of their opponents, with the goal just before half time from Daley Blind being pivotal.

Argentina started their campaign in disastrous fashion, going down to Saudi Arabia 2-1 in what was one of the biggest shocks in recent World Cup memory. However they still managed to top Group C after consecutive 2-0 wins over Mexico and Poland respectively, despite both games being locked 0-0 at the half.

In Lionel Messi’s 1,000th match, he broke Socceroos hearts with a clinical goal to lead off the scoring, and despite some heart flutters late they emerged as 2-1 victors to set up a massive clash against the Dutch to try to progress through to the Semi Finals.

Morocco v Portugal Preview

The third Quarter Final sees the most lop sided betting contest of the Quarter Final stage as Morocco look to continue their giant killing run against the high flying Portuguese side.

Portugal finished top of Group H despite conceding a late winner to South Korea in the last match of the group stage. Prior to that match they emerged victorious against Ghana and Uruguay with 3-2 and 2-0 wins respectively.

Their best performance of the tournament however was the 5-1 victory against the normally staunch Switzerland side. There was controversy pre match when Goncalo Ramos was selected up front instead of Cristiano Ronaldo, however he duly repaid the faith, scoring a hat trick on his World Cup debut.

The final Quarter Final sees two bitter rivals face off where only one can progress through to the Semi Final.
